End of Module Evaluation

End of Module self evaluation

What skills have you developed through this module and how effectivively do you think you have applied them?

I have become more confident within myself and where my strengths lie. I have realised that hand drawn illustration will never come easy to me and will always require perseverance and time in to producing a piece which I am happy with.

However I have created a style which I do find fairly easy to create, using loose lines and a tine stroke with colouring pencils – this was a style which I would of have never attempted before starting this module.

What approaches to/methods of research have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

This module has encouraged me to become more aware of what is going on around me/ right in front of my face in regards to design inspiration. I hadn’t looked at the 3rd years work before now, after looking around and onto some of their blogs it begun to open new ideas and inspiration for me. I have also started to look more in the library at monthly magazine and their articles and above all design blogs, which are constantly fed with new designers work daily.

What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

My strengths are working within mixed media and layout. I have pushed myself to take on this approach and make it work for me and I will use this style in further projects to come.
I have developed a new hand rendered typeface, which I have now begun to stylize each page with. I feel overall I have progressed with my design appreciation and I now have motivation to produce and experiment with pieces for my own pleasure.

What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these more fully?

I would say my research is limited in parts, I should become more confident and reach wider areas so get better results. I would also say I should start to blog the inspiration which I have seen more fluently, daily, to create an source of reference.

Identify five things that you would do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

1. Start up my blog for day one and keep it regularly posted and an inspiration platform.

2. Time management, become more crannies ad keep all work together and neatly presented.

3. Finish all studios work straight away and not leave it for a few weeks after, I cold be using theses weeks to be developing further on form the studio work and practicing what I have learnt.

4. Improve my attendance.

5. Become more confident illustrator and continue with all what I have learnt and take the time to develop my hand drawing skills further.

Intial research/ ideas...

Of course, everyone knows of Santa and everyone has there own imaginary image of santa in there heads. The stereotypical santa is on the large side, jolly, wise, has a big long white beard, wearing a wolly red and white suit with a big golden belt and buckle.

I wanted to play on this, transform santa into a charcter which contrasts and comes as a shock going against his conventions. This idea came from clicking on a link from google and finding a site full of children crying sat ono santa's lap.

Thursday

statement of Intent

We have were given the breif for this modulule just over a week ago, and my given character was Santa. We have to represent our charcacter in the modern day for 24 hours. So this got me thinking, what I could do with Santa and how I could alter his personality and apperance.

For this modulae I will be producing an advent calender documenting the modern day santa and his whereabouts in Leeds, UK every 2 hours. Santa will be depeicted s broken, withered, irritable, angrey and morbidy obese. This going against the normal conventions associated wiht him and his merry, jolly self. The day will be christmas eve, santa'a busyest time of yet. However due to the credit crunch and the mass of spoilt brats it has forced Santa to budget shop and make his own gifts - this is what his day will entail.
