Intial research/ ideas...

Of course, everyone knows of Santa and everyone has there own imaginary image of santa in there heads. The stereotypical santa is on the large side, jolly, wise, has a big long white beard, wearing a wolly red and white suit with a big golden belt and buckle.

I wanted to play on this, transform santa into a charcter which contrasts and comes as a shock going against his conventions. This idea came from clicking on a link from google and finding a site full of children crying sat ono santa's lap.

Thursday

statement of Intent

We have were given the breif for this modulule just over a week ago, and my given character was Santa. We have to represent our charcacter in the modern day for 24 hours. So this got me thinking, what I could do with Santa and how I could alter his personality and apperance.

For this modulae I will be producing an advent calender documenting the modern day santa and his whereabouts in Leeds, UK every 2 hours. Santa will be depeicted s broken, withered, irritable, angrey and morbidy obese. This going against the normal conventions associated wiht him and his merry, jolly self. The day will be christmas eve, santa'a busyest time of yet. However due to the credit crunch and the mass of spoilt brats it has forced Santa to budget shop and make his own gifts - this is what his day will entail.

3D Object

This an example of 3D lettering which I cam across whilst browsing FFFfound. I could not find the designers name who made this or came up with its concept, but I though it was relevant as next week we were going to make a 2D object a 3D one.

I chose to use a sandwich as I have a love for them, in particular a nice, cold ham and crisp lettuce one. i found this image from google and printed it off to start this workshop. Here is my 2D image:

I made my sand which to start with using a white net for the main structure, then covered it and marked holes in it to make the brown bread. For the veg and filling I used a mix of coloured paper, layered and cut out over one another. I am pleased with my final outcome, and to most people I have shown it to, for a split second they believe it is a giant real sand which which I have made.

Here is my made 3D object, re photographed turned back to 2D and Vo as my model:

Quitin Blake

I lovvve Blakes style of illistartion, its jerky, little detail attention to detail apart form in the right places and he has an amazing imagination. maybe I say this though because his work reminds me of when I was little having the Rold Dalh storys read to me before bed, I have very fond memories of his work.s

Hudsen & Bec Studio London

I found this image on the contact page on the website for this studio which I was looking at for example of work experience in the summer. It struck me and eye my focus, reminding me of Rob Ryans style a little bit.
